Overview

The Mission of our department is to contribute to the holistic development of students. The primary objective is to provide an educational and research environment in basic and applied concepts of microbiology relevant to the living systems, environment, and industries. Diverse aspects of science and technology will be utilized to impart fundamental knowledge and to solve challenging problems. The preliminary focus of our department will be to acquaint students with the world of microbiology with hands-on practical training on fundamental techniques of microbiology. Our programme will encompass theoretical and practical aspects of advances in scientific research along with interactive sessions with subject experts and regular industrial visits. This training will enhance the problem-solving capability of students. Research projects will be an integral part of our course which will help our students to think out of the box and work in a team.‎

Objectives

The students should have an understanding of the basic concepts and scope of microbiology‎‎
The course should enable the students to understand the general tools and techniques commonly used in academic or industrial microbiological enterprises.‎‎
Graduates will be gaining the critical concepts and understanding of the subject that would help them solve the industry related technological problems‎‎
The course desires to make the students thorough professionals or entrepreneurs engaged in technology advancement or implementation in industry
The course would enable students to come up with creative or innovative ideas with the hope to create future leaders in the field‎‎

Eligibility Criteria

For Indian and International Students
For pursuing BSc (Microbiology), a candidate must have at least 50% In HSc Science Stream. For International Students, an equivalent qualification is mandatory.

Q. How to Reach MU ?

Marwadi University is located on Rajkot-Morbi Road. You can take a city bus to Madhapar Chowk and from there, a Rickshaw Ride will drop you to Marwadi University which is a landmark known by all local drivers. It is 10 km from Bus Station, 12 km from Airport, and 10 km from Railway Station. You can easily find it on Google Maps if you want to self-drive to the University.

Q. Is there a Hostel Facility available at Marwadi University ?

Yes, Marwadi University has 6 hostels with a capacity of more than 3500 students. Many National and International students stay here and feel at home. There are ample facilities available at MU hostel. You can inquire about the hostel when you take admission and get accommodated in your new home.

Marwadi University is UGC (University Grants Commission) approved/listed. You can find the name of Marwadi University under the list of UGC approved Universities. MU is also the only institute that is given the NAAC A+ grade in Gujarat.

Q. What all Documents are necessary to bring in while joining the University ?

While you come for admissions, you need to carry your HSC and SSC results, school leaving certificate, JEE score card & registration slip (ACPC). We advise you to keep originals along with photocopies of the same. If you are taking admissions for a Master’s degree, you need to also keep the Bachelor’s Degree Certificate and Marksheet, and any other examination’s scorecard if applicable along with the previously mentioned documents. (GATE score, CMAT, CAT score, GPAT score)

Q. Is there any Medical Facility provided ?

Yes, first-aid medical kits and assistance are available on campus. There is also an ambulance available 24/7 to take students off campus for any kind of emergency.

Dr. Gaurav Sanghvi’s research theme focuses on the innovative bio based nutritive solutions. Dr. Sanghvi is currently working in characterizing the novel enzymes substituting the chemical compounds used in food processing industries to improve the sensory and nutritive quality of food products. Also he is interested in finding novel microbial compounds used in cosmetic industries. Young researchers interested in working on the above mentioned themes are welcomed to approach me.

Biofuel/Biodiesel production: Enzyme-catalyzed biodiesel production using different acyl acceptors.

Dr. Ashok Kumar Bishoyi, is currently working as Associate Professor (Microbiology) at Marwadi University, Rajkot, Gujarat, India. Prior to academic career, he has worked as scientist B at Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of Gujarat. During his scientific career, he has executed 5 different research projects related to transcriptomics, genomics, plant tissue culture, animal tissue culture, virology, molecular marker development, AMR, healthcare, etc. He has completed Ph. D from ICAR- Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic plants research & CHARUSAT, Ananad, Gujarat with doctorate in Biotechnology and master graduate in Biotechnology from Berhampur university, Odisha. He has been selected/ awarded ICAR-NET 2014. He has published more than 35 research publications/ books/ book chapters in different reputed peer reviewed international/ national journals for his research credit. He is an active reviewer of many Springer, Elsevier and Wiley research journals. He is also working as an energetic editorial member of one international research journal.

Dr. Purvi Gondalia, is currently working as Assistant Professor (Microbiology) at Marwadi University, Rajkot, Gujarat, India. She has more than 5 years of experience in academic and research in microbiology and plant pathology. She has completed his Ph. D. in Microbiology from Saurashtra University. She has received a UGC BSR fellowship during her doctorate studies. She has completed Master of Philosophy and Master of Science from SaurashtraUniversity. She has published research and review papers in international and national journals. Her area of research interest is Plant Microbe Interaction, Bacterial Genomics and Microbial Bioinformatics.

Dr. Viralkumar Mandaliya, is currently working as Assistant Professor (Microbiology) at Marwadi University, Rajkot, Gujarat, India. Prior to joining MU, he has served as Assistant Professor at Gujarat National Law University (Gandhinagar), Christ College (Rajkot) and CCSIT College (Junagadh). He has also served as Research Associate at ICAR-DGR, Junagadh. He has completed his PhD in Biotechnology subject from Saurashtra University, Rajkot. He has completed two minor research projects funded by GoG. He currently has two Start-up projects under NewGen policy. Recently, one patent is filled and three patents are under examinations. He has numerous papers, articles, books and book chapters on his credit. Five PhD Scholars are working under his supervision. His area of expertise is Microbial Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology and Intellectual Property Rights.

Dr. Niralee patel is working as an assistant professor in the Microbiology Department and earned her doctoral degree in Microbiology from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. She is GATE-qualified with 96 percentile and received a UGC-RFSMS fellowship for her doctoral studies. She has completed her Master’s and Bachelors of Science in Biotechnology from Gujarat University. Her specialization includes techniques of advanced molecular biology, Molecular marker development, proteomics, Regulation of Pathogenesis, Non-coding RNA, infectious diseases, and cosmetic science, etc. She is also the coordinator of the Women’s Cell Team from the Microbiology Department. She has conducted various events and programs for the upliftment of student’s talents in various other fields
Name: Dr. Anjisha Maharshi
Designation: Assistant Professor, Microbiology
Dr. AnjishaMaharshi is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the department of Microbiology.She has 12 years of experience in the field of Microbiology and Pathology. She has been associated with various pathological labs since 2006. Previously she had worked with various renowned institutes of Gujarat i.e. M.S. University and CSIR-ICMR National laboratories that make her our asset. She serves as PGDMLT Coordinator and channelized the internship and placement of PGDMLT students in Advance Pathological Laboratories which will be beneficial to the student in getting absorbed in the reputed pathology Laboratories. Her roles also extend in doing active collaborations with the key diagnostic labs like Dr. Bhatt’s Pathology labs and Sanjeevani Metropolis Rajkot.
Research Area of Interest
Her research team works on the theme of Xenobiotic compound degradation, Bioactive Natural products, Medical Microbiology, Myconanoparticles and PGPR from fungi. Researchers who want to contribute in this field are welcome to contact.

Dr. Nikitasinh Gohil is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology. She has 6 years of academic teaching experience in the field of Microbiology. Previously, she worked with the Department of Lifesciences and Sir P.P. Institute of Science, Bhavnagar University, Gujarat. She earned her doctoral degree in Microbiology from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam University, Indore, M.P. She has completed her master’s from Bhavnagar University and bachelor of Science and Education from KSKV Kachchh University, Gujarat. She has published 7 research papers/ Book chapters in reputed journals. Her research areas of interest are the extraction of plant-based bioactive compounds, siderophore, and PGPR from endophyticmanglicolous fungi.

Designation: Teaching Assistant, Microbiology
Ms Rinku Manvani is an alumina of Marwadi University where she has earned postgraduation in the domain of science with specialization in Microbiology. She is currently pursing Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in the area of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR), and awardee of Scheme of Developing High Quality Research (SHODH) offered by Government of Gujarat. She has various research publications in indexed international journals including research articles, book chapters, posters in reputed conferences, IPR (industrial design). She is also a life member of various associations representing community of Microbiology.
She has received several awards for participation at school level, university level and state level. She plays very important role in imparting positive attitude in students by arranging contemplation sessions at Happy Village Retreat Centre, Rajkot. Ms Rinku strongly believes in transforming passion into profession by keeping peace and happiness intact.
